The Court affirmed the NM Attorney General’s argument that abortion access in New Mexico is and will remain protected across our state

Today, the New Mexico Supreme Court convened to hear oral arguments in the pivotal case of State of New Mexico v. Board of County Commissioners for Lea County.

The Gerald Champion Regional Medical Center in Alamogordo recently announced its plans to join CHRISTUS Health, a Catholic healthcare system that restricts reproductive healthcare, LGBTQ+ inclusive healthcare, and end-of life care, as early as July 1, 2023. 

Multiple bills championed by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of New Mexico, partners, and elected leaders this legislative session that advance a more just and equal New Mexico were signed into law by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham.

Today, the House Health & Human Services Committee passed House Bill 7, the Reproductive and Gender-Affirming Health Care Act on a 7 to 3 party line vote.

Advocate groups and lawmakers, including State Senator Linda Lopez and Representative Linda Serrato, are calling for the protection and expansion of reproductive freedom in New Mexico, including abortion care, ahead of the 2023 Legislative Session.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham today announced and signed an Executive Order that expands reproductive health care, including abortion.

The ACLU of NM sent letters to the Alamogordo City Commission and the Otero County Commission reiterating that resolutions opposing the provision of abortion care have no force of law in our state.
