ACLU of New Mexico Commends Senator Heinrich and Udall’s Decision to Stand with Dreamers and Border Residents
“Today, Senators Heinrich and Udall sent a powerful message to Dreamers that they will not allow Trump and his allies to ransom their lives in a cynical tradeoff for a $25 billion monument to ego and intolerance,” said Peter Simonson, Executive Director of the ACLU of New Mexico. “We’re relieved that they not only rejected two immigration proposals that would have done exactly that, but that they also expressly and publicly condemned the wall and committed to protecting Dreamers. The border wall is an affront to American values that would harm the daily lives of millions of borderlands residents by further militarizing our communities and causing permanent environmental damage.”
