About the Role

The ACLU of New Mexico seeks a Summer Legal Intern. This position is hybrid and will require some in-person work in our Albuquerque office and may involve in-person client meetings, depositions, and court hearings. Qualifying applicants must be current University of New Mexico School of Law students.

What You'll Do:

The Summer Legal Intern will work on priority areas for the ACLU of New Mexico’s Legal team, including.

Your Day to Day may include some or all of the following:

  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support new and active litigation projects
  • Aid in drafting legal memoranda, demand letters, discovery materials, deposition outlines, pleadings, affidavits, motions, and briefs
  • Draft and edit public education and non-litigation advocacy materials
  • Work closely with clients and participate in outreach with impacted communities,
  • Conduct Know Your Rights presentations
  • Center principles of equity and inclusion in all work

What You'll Bring

  • This internship is open to current University of New Mexico School of Law students. Applicants should have completed their 1L year by the summer of 2026 and have the following:
    • Excellent research skills, including conducting internet and legal database research
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and writing
    • Excellent interpersonal skills
    • Demonstrated commitment to civil liberties and racial justice
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex legal analysis and fact finding

Internship Logistics

  • Time Commitment: Summer internships require a full time (40 hour/week) commitment.
  • Internship Duration: Summer internships span 10 consecutive weeks with a start date of June 1.
  • Pay: Legal interns will receive $25/hour.
