What you need to know
On average, women in New Mexico earn only 79 cents for every dollar a man earns for doing the same job.
Despite the great strides women have made towards equality in education, the workplace, and government representation, women still face harmful discrimination and inequities in many areas of their lives. As part of its efforts to create a New Mexico where women recieve the same treatment and oppotunities as anyone else, the ACLU of New Mexico has:
- Fought against efforts to segregate public school classrooms based on gender
- Filed a lawsuit against a school for publicly shaming and kicking out a student for becoming pregnant
- Helped to pass a law that gives pregnant and parenting students the schedule flexibility they need to take care of their families and succeed academically.
