ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — The ACLU of New Mexico, along with the people of New Mexico and the border community, proudly thank New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham for standing up against Trump’s border wall and his administration’s racist immigration and asylum policies.

This week, Lujan Grisham pulled the majority of her National Guard troops deployed along New Mexico’s southern border. In doing so, she called Trump’s so-called border crises “a charade of border fear-mongering.”

Lujan Grisham’s decision to order the withdrawal of national guard troops from the border, along with her release of a now-viral video where she literally busts through walls, signal New Mexicans will not be a part of the president’s smear campaign against the border.

The administration’s manufactured border crisis has split up families trying to enter the U.S. legally and led to the deaths of several asylum seekers. New Mexicans are proud of the leadership and the strength the governor has shown in the face of the Trump Administration's racist policies.

“Through her actions, Gov. Lujan Grisham embodies the ideals and resolve of New Mexicans and the entire border community to stand up for human rights and against Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda,” said Executive Director of the ACLU of New Mexico Peter Simonson. “Trump is using human lives to advance his racist agenda for a border wall. The people of New Mexico and the border community won’t stand by while he spews lies and fuels hatred. We commend Gov. Lujan Grisham for standing up to Trump.”
