The ACLU-NM is the state affiliate of the ACLU, the nation’s premier civil rights and civil liberties organization. The purpose of ACLU-NM is to protect and advance justice, liberty and equity as guaranteed by the constitutions of New Mexico and the United States.  We work to make justice, liberty and equity realities for all people in New Mexico, with particular attention to the rights of people and groups who have historically been disenfranchised. For more information please visit www.aclu-nm.org

The ACLU-NM carries out a vigorous legislative program that enjoys the respect of New Mexico lawmakers. We partner with individuals and communities impacted by injustices to inform and mobilize people throughout the state. The people in the center of the struggles for justice, who feel the impact in their daily lives, are especially important allies.

The ACLU-NM is committed to ending racism and other inequities. This includes how we work with each other and with our partners and allies in the communities we serve.

We are the largest civil liberties organization in the state with thousands of members. We tirelessly pursue large-scale impact that affects real people's lives. We are fighting for a future in New Mexico where everyone can enjoy the principles of justice, liberty, belonging and equity in their lived experiences.

Our Mission

The mission of the ACLU of New Mexico is to protect and advance justice, liberty, and equity as guaranteed by the constitutions of New Mexico and the United States. As the state affiliate of the premiere civil rights and civil liberties organization in the country, we fight in the courts, in the legislature, and in our communities to ensure that justice, liberty and equity are realities for all people.

In particular, we fight for the rights of people and groups who have historically been disenfranchised. We fight for a more just, equitable, and free New Mexico where all people belong and are respected.

We acknowledge that, as a result of historic and systemic racism and other forms of oppression, the principles of justice, liberty, and equity are not enjoyed by all people of this state or this country. Inequitable enforcement of our laws and policies, as well as the laws and policies themselves, can reinforce systems of oppression, exclusion, and disenfranchisement for many groups of people.

We tirelessly pursue large-scale impact that affects real people's lives, from reproductive, youth, and LGBTQ rights; mass incarceration and racial justice; privacy, surveillance and technology; immigrant rights, freedom from religious interference, and more. We are fighting for a future in New Mexico where everyone can enjoy the principles of justice, liberty, belonging and equity in their lived experiences.
