The ACLU of New Mexico's legislative advocacy and lobbying program works to defeat bills that threaten civil liberties and establish state statutes that strengthen rights and protections under the Constitution.

11-Feb-2008 Yesterday, HB37, the Electronic Medical Records Act, sponsored by Rep. Peter Wirth (D-Santa Fe), was successfully amended to include privacy protections and passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The bill now heads to the Senate floor for a full vote. Continued»

New Mexico Legislature

The New Mexico State Legislature convenes every year on the third Tuesday in January to determine the laws and expenditures of our state. Sessions last for sixty days during odd-numbered years and thirty days on even-numbered years. The Legislative body is comprised of both a House and a Senate, with 70 House members and 42 Senators for a total of 112 lawmakers.

The American Civil Liberties Union of New Mexico maintains a permanent regional office in Santa Fe, the state capital.
